What should I expect when I attend therapy?

The initial phase (around 2-4 sessions) allows me to start to get to know you, understand your history and what brings you to therapy. Following this, I recommend attendance on at least a fortnightly basis. When we meet, you will be provided with space and time that is uniquely yours to allow for the exploration of your human experience. This may include building an understanding of maladaptive patterns that are holding you back from your true self. As a therapist, I hold in the highest regard the building and maintaining of our therapeutic relationship and elements that support this, including use of humour, creativity and play.

How long will therapy take?

A range of factors impact the length of therapy and these are unique to the individual. These factors may include the nature and severity of the concerns, how long they have been impacting your life and the type of therapy you are engaging with.

While as a clinical practice the primary goal of psychodynamically-informed therapy is to reduce distress & enhance wellbeing, you are also partaking in a journey towards coming closer to one's true self. For this reason, it takes longer than other short-term therapies (such as CBT).

How long are the sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length.

What are the current fees?

$220 per 50-minute session (both in-person and via video). Payment can be made at time of session via bank transfer on the day of the session.

Do I need a referral?

You are welcome to self-refer and do not require a referral from a GP or psychiatrist to visit me. You also do not require a clinical diagnosis.

The Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative supports access to psychological treatment. If you have a GP Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $96.65 for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (as of July 1 2024). Please note that Medicare does not cover cancellation fees.

What areas don’t you cover?

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide bulk-billing services or services under third-party providers at this time. I also do not provide court and legal reports, couples or family therapy, testing and assessment or support to young people under the age of 16 years old.
